Dear sirs

Att.: Commercial, logistics and technical PA departments

Top priority- basics when constructing a quay is to provide for effectual loading/unloading of ships. Any damage, calling for maintenance work, any obstruction, preventing this basics, top priority, is causing more or less frequent costs and reducing clients value of investments made. Therefore - and for full benefit of unique advantages with HOOKARD/EDGARD popular, well known, marine mooring quay bollards, since 1984, now total concept "3C" proudly is introduced - shortly below.

Marine quay FENDERS CT

New fender fixing system adds the " missing link". Experience from perfect functioning has proved:

The one fender that always satisfies marine ports business basics and therefore also is "Alt.1" for CT is the hollow, cylindrical, elastomeric rubber element, with fix horizontal axial (diametrically loaded). Principle is not new. Recent photo from a 30-year-old installation at a very exposed and a multipurpose container quay at Scandia Harbour, PA Gothenburg, Sweden (PAG) is a unique, interesting, relevant reference. (Of course, at those rare occasions when fender rigid metallic structure, low friction shields, with rigid corners and edges etc., really are requested - and can not be avoided, those should be self supporting and equally assuring for fenders own, elastic alignment movements as well horr., vertical as perpendicular (parallel) - without in any respect loosing fenders nominal function capacity and safe calculability- robust functioning.)

For obvious reasons: chains, or any non-elastic fender suspension is of course avoided with CT and "3C" systems. (Note 1 below)

BOLLARDS Calculable forces and safety are in reality safe only at clearance and consequently the newest marine bollard from CT and - may be the ultimate marine quay bollard - is for complete flush (clearance) mounting as well at top as at front side of quay. Flexibility and safety etc. are of course by same reason superior at smaller, closely centred HOOKARD/EDGARD units compared with big units, distantly spaced . Size is in fact very important - "Small is beautiful"!

"3C"

"3C" is a new total quay design concept. 3C includes for best commercial interest PA technical basics (Nos. 1, 2 below).

1. Marine Bollards and marine fenders in conjunction shall provide for proper, effectual unloading/loading conditions of ships. During this phase ship should be ensured free (non force inducing) vertical movements but otherwise safely limited.

2. Technical keywords: "CLEARANCE" and "CALCULABLE". (hereby also some secrets behind HOOKARD/EDGARD success should be revealed.) At marine port quays where big units regularily are moving freely, only direct hit contact "allowed" is ships hull/elastomeric fender surfaces. (It is obvious that any non elastic contacts against sharp edges/corners of any rigid structure are causing big non calculable forces and corresponding damages on ship, fender, quay, bollard etc. - in turn disturbing day to day work - demanding maintenance).

Compare for example how there are, also in PAG (less exposed)- nearby quay on photo - where, on exactly same quay and at first sight even with same basic equipment installed, there are documented and recorded sections without any damages and sep. sections with severe damages. Relevant (and only) difference is clearance res. non-clearance - simple as that! It is, thereby understood, not only a matter of equipment but of total quay design - and clearance.

CT fenders and HOOKARD/EDGARD bollards allows for safe clearance, are all the way high quality and if outweared they are quick and simple to replace.

CRANETRACKS

- in same extent not crucial for providing max. Prime quality quay - but basically CT cranetracks are also as all CT products minimising systems forces and thereby total forces to be absorbed/distributed, so also ask for CT cranetracks - on firm structures or on sleepers behind quay.

GENERAL All capacities available, adapted to max capacity forces allowed for by local structures, with relevant "safety factors" as agreed. Occasionally, when structure of ship or quay is weak just also specify max. forces/pressures allowed (from bollards, fenders and cranes) and corr. min. energy to be absorbed - non-fender damaging, alt "fender damaging" etc. Basically it is same with all CT products: they provide for that minimal safely limited (calculable) forces and pressures are to be taken care of by ship and civil engineering structure. With fenders this is of course elementary and well known, still it has to be emphasised - all the way. Same is in fact valid with any other CT components - bollards, rails etc. - this is in fact "secret" of CT products and should be specified by clients.

Please therefore when specifying for marine quays: only ask for high quality original components from CT - or equal - at any commercial top priority high quality quay. Consequently for Your and your client's best interest simply specify:

BOLLARDS - HOOKARD/EDGARD, Des.Pat, original products - or equal.
FENDERS, - clearance providing, CT safe system for fix horr, axial cylindrical rubber fenders - or equal.
3C total design concept - or equal etc.

Guarantees

Quality system: ISO 9001. CT products always, all the way, are safely calculable. CT products and deliveries are strictly with focus upon clients demand for high qual., safe, simple construction and minimal maintenance requested. Design is top priority with careful adapting to working conditions, avoiding kvasi non-calculable forces and for minimising secondary, systems forces and total forces - dimensioning. Safely minimising, absorbing and distributing of forces is in fact CT business.

Elastic isolating plus damping of dyn. energy is a speciality, whereby bonus is among others less noise - air- as well as ground/structure borne - during products all long lasting use. CT has a unique competence and experience within civil engineering infrastructure technology, benefiting of more than 30 years professional experience within this field. CT has a large amount of own unique, DES.PAT. original high qual. products with registered trademarks.

Note 1: relevant Standards as British Standard (pos. 4.10) , BS 6349:Part4:1994 (BS) etc. are complied to. Local conditions vary of course from site to site. however some basics and top priority is universal - as in referred BS Standard stated.
